The Conference Awards 2015 Review

The Conference Awards, now in its sixth year, is the largest event for UK conference industry to come together and recognise and celebrate the very best in the industry.  Over 600 conference professionals attended the event this year, 43% of whom where c level or directors.

All of the categories were very strong, with the new category “Best Conference Company to Work For” proving extremely competitive – attracting over 500 entries, indicating the value companies placed on winning such a prestigious award.

Each year, the panel of judges changes – bringing in new companies, organisations and associations but always including the largest and most significant conference organisers. It is an impressive list of the “movers and shakers” in the conference industry.  Considerable effort goes into ensuring the judging is a very robust process. All entries are assessed independently online by at least 4 different judges and if it's still too close to call further opinions are sought. In total, it is estimated that it takes 4 solid working weeks of their collective time to work out the winners

The Awards ceremony was held for the first time at the Hurlingham Club which looked absolutely stunning. Guests enjoyed pre-lunch drinks in the sunshine with jazz, peacock ladies and the retro taxi photobooth.  Lunch was absolutely delicious and guests were entertained by the excellent Lee Nelson and the hilarious Chris Turner and the "voice of Siri" John Briggs.

A recent success story was a conference in Dubrovnik, when the team at brand experience agency White Label, chose us to deliver the full technical production for their client, Beam Suntory’s EMEA internal sales conference. The 2-day growth conference – Growing for Good - brought together 250 of the business’ key marketing people from across the region for the premium spirits company.  

Working within the event concept created by White Label, our brief was to deliver the production requirements for the conference across the main plenary and breakout spaces.  We were tasked with specifying and delivering full video, lighting and sound solutions and designing and building the stage and set in the main conference room.  We also delivered the set build, room dressing and audio-visual production for the conference’s break-out rooms, stunningly themed around Beam Suntory’s product range and heritage. 

With the main conference room doubling up as the Bourbon themed break-out room, we were set the logistical challenge of transforming the room. In just 30 minutes we assembled a bar, porch, and cooperage and reconfigured the sound, lighting and video to suit the breakout set up. After that, we completed another quick turnaround to deliver the audio-visual support for the conference’s awards dinner.
